After university I sort of ‘fell into’ a career in the insurance sector.  I started out as a claims handler but was soon offered a place on a graduate programme in a Lloyd’s syndicate.  After five years I’d earned an advanced diploma and was given chartered insurer status by the Chartered Insurance Institute.

But even though I was doing well in insurance, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wanted to do something different.  I’d always had an interest in computers and had taught myself to code, so I on a whim I applied for, and was accepted onto, a post-graduate master’s degree in computer science.

After my MSc I worked as a computer science teacher and then as a data engineer, but when I was contacted by RDT I was instantly interested because it combined both of my skill sets!  From the moment I attended the interview, I could tell that RDT was a great place to work.  I was impressed by the chic offices designed to enable the agile way of working, from the open-plan break out area with sofas and games machines through to the colour-coded team areas.

As a business analyst at RDT, I get to work with a wide variety of people, so no two days are the same.  I work with the product owners to refine the backlog and breakdown stories ready for backlog refinement, and I am responsible for the data models we use.

I am fortunate to work with exceptional colleagues and external customers.  Each client has different requirements and business processes that require careful analysis and consideration before proposing a solution.  I enjoy getting to grips with the client’s business models and working with the client to ensure that an appropriate solution is found.

Overall though, the people are my favourite aspect of working at RDT.  There is a common understanding of the importance of team work and how we can draw on our individual talents, skills and knowledge to achieve our goals together.  I am very lucky to work with such awesome colleagues who are so skilled and talented in their respective areas.  There is a wealth of knowledge and assistance available from teammates who are never too busy to help you out.
