As AI-assisted fraud becomes easier to produce at scale, the gap between what a system can process and what it can verify becomes a real exposure. Here’s what we’re doing about it.

Why we partnered with OpenOrigins

As AI-assisted fraud becomes cheaper and easier to produce at scale, the gap between what a system can process and what it can verify becomes a meaningful exposure. Manipulated photos, edited invoices, and images recycled from earlier claims are entering pipelines earlier today, and the systems built to process claims at volume weren’t designed to catch them.

That’s the problem we set out to solve with OpenOrigins.

How it works

We’ve integrated OpenOrigins’ anchoring technology directly into ACE at the media ingestion layer. When photos, documents, or video enter a claim, OpenOrigins generates a tamper-evident cryptographic record and anchors it into Cambium, their independent provenance network. From that point on, any modification to that file is detectable. The same anchor also allows the system to recognise when an image has been seen before – catching reuse across claims before it reaches an adjuster’s desk.

Insurers can also anchor their historic claims archive, giving them a baseline of known imagery to check new submissions against. This is where the value compounds. The longer an insurer runs anchored against their archive, the harder it becomes for a reused or manipulated image to slip through unnoticed. What starts as a verification layer becomes, over time, an increasingly robust fraud signal.

No core systems need to be replaced – and as our white paper on automation integration sets out, that matters. The integration plugs into what insurers already run with RDT, and most deployments can be live within weeks of signing.

The practical outcome for insurers is straightforward: less manual review on suspect media, stronger fraud signals earlier in the process, and a verifiable audit trail on the evidence underlying each claim.

Why now, and why OpenOrigins

RDT’s role is to help insurers process claims faster and more intelligently, and that means thinking about more than just the efficiency of the pipeline, but the reliability of what flows through it. Digital-first submissions have transformed the speed and efficiency of claims handling, but as we’ve explored before, most of the cost still sits in the operational middle.

OpenOrigins brings serious expertise to this problem. Their technology is already trusted in media and journalism by organisations including ITN, ANI, and TopFoto. Insurance is a natural next sector: the evidence underlying a claim has the same fundamental vulnerability as the evidence underlying a news story. Someone can fabricate it now, cheaply, at scale, and the systems built to handle that evidence weren’t designed for a world where the inputs themselves are contested.

We’re proud to be working with a partner thinking carefully about where digital trust needs to go. For our clients, this is a practical capability available today. For us, it’s part of how we build platforms that hold up as the landscape around them changes.
