Four of RDT’s people spent the day at SkillsFest in Tunbridge Wells last week.
The event was organised to provide young people attending local schools with an opportunity to talk to employers in the area. The aim was to inspire them as they plan their future career, and to give them an idea of what roles might be available to them and determine what qualifications or skills they might need.
Around seventy employers were at the event and it was really well attended by schools from the West Kent area.
We had an opportunity to talk to the young people about our apprenticeships, internships and work experience opportunities. We were able to inspire the young people by explaining more about the roles we hire for at RDT – software engineers, QA and testing roles, and roles such as that of the Scrum Master and Product Owner.
Alongside this, our HR Manager Maxine played an Agile game. The groups had to organise themselves as a team and determine how they could work more effectively together and it proved to be very popular – over 70 of the young people got involved.
We hope that we managed to inform and inspire the people we met, and help with the realisation that IT companies do not just recruit techies and that there are exciting opportunities for all types of skilled people. We are particularly focused on encouraging young women to consider careers in tech and are keen to offer opportunities for hands-on experience with us.
